Elijah Barnes

Elijah’s musical journey began with piano, but he started to learn trumpet with lessons at the Academy of Music, which has since become his specialty. Elijah’s musical career has also involved multi-instrumental learning, composition, arrangement, and conducting, leading to a deeper understanding of musical components and transferable knowledge. He currently offers lessons on trumpet and piano.

Elijah has many years’ experience in the processes of auditions, AMEB exams, State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP), Young Conservatorium, Queensland Youth Orchestras (QYO), and a variety of competitions and ensembles. He is knowledgeable in helping students through these processes and is proficient with the techniques, styles, and transpositions required for a wide range of repertoire.

Elijah is currently studying a Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the University of Queensland. Here, he studies both the practical and the theoretical sides of music, and has built connections to professionals within the music industry.

As a teacher, Elijah is able use all of these experiences to lead aspiring students along their own pathways. He is currently developing new methods of instructing trumpet students at any level, especially in learning notation, mastering sight-reading, and developing the range of techniques required to achieve the goals of each student.
